Northumberland at its best!

Before the rain came today we were lucky to have caught the best weather in Northumberland at the weekend, and I had the most inspirational visit to Howick Hall Gardens.  And the tea rooms in the old ballroom are amazing too - I had some wonderful local smoked salmon and earl grey tea of course (after all Howick Hall is the ancestral home of Earl Grey who invented the tea!).  I think the end of May takes a lot of beating to see the very best of British flora and fauna.  And yes, we made it onto the beach (lots), got tanned faces (yes indeed!) and loads of sea air.  Take a look...

Beautiful wild meadow flowers and grasses

I've no idea what this is, but I love it!

One of my favourite flowers, the poppy.

Couldn't believe what a beautiful soft pink these were

I grew these successfully at my old house in Yorkshire (not these actual ones!).  Himalayan poppies, such an amazing blue!

The rhododendrons and azaleas were truly inspiring.  The fallen petals had created a huge pink carpet.

Nice pic in the Yorkshire Post magazine.

Lovely mention in last weekend's Yorkshire Post magazine - and what a nice big pic!

Shades of Grey...

I had the fabric for this pair of bespoke 40cm shades specially printed for a customer.  All finished and packed off this week - I hope she likes them!

A job well done!

Just finished a lovely bespoke job designing a set 4 cushions and 2 lampshades, all in 100% silk, and providing 10m of gorgeous linen for roman blinds.

I'm ever so pleased with the results and LOVE doing bespoke work, getting the fabric printed specially for the client, choosing the right backing fabrics, ribbons and threads for their colour scheme, and best of all, seeing the whole design put together in their house!

Pics of the products in situ and roman blinds to follow soon!

Putting my lovely new silk to good use...

Finally the silk arrived, and I've been busy putting it all to good use!  I think the new, textured silk is much more tactile and feels just lovely.

Oh, and they are much bigger now too (52cmx35cm).  Very comfy!  They are 100% silk, lined on the front, and filled with the squidgiest duck feather inserts I could find.  Here are a couple I made over the weekend that are off for a magazine shoot tomorrow.  What do you think?

Extra photos from Paris...

Bristish Embassy Paris UKTI - Lifestyle and Heritage Event April 2014

Well, I'm back!  Three days in Paris was fun, exciting and a bit of a whirl to be honest!  The trade visit to the British Embassy was an unforgettable experience, and surpassed all my expectations.

I met some very lovely people from UKTI, and their Paris counterparts, whose enthusiasm and advice was just brilliant.  I've said this before but I feel utterly privileged to have been invited to join some fabulous creative industries on this visit, who were the nicest, most down to earth people you could ever want to meet.  The building was stunning, as were the products on show.  The Ambassador and his wife were very generous and friendly hosts, taking the time to come and meet all the designers just prior to the event starting.  Then, as the guests arrived, so did the waiters with scrumptious canapes and champagne.  I had the added bonus of being accompanied by my other half to help at the reception, and we stayed on an extra night to enjoy some time together in St Germain de Pres on the left bank.

An amazing experience I won't forget.
